Review - Van Helsing: Return of the League of Monsters
A special beginning of a two-parter from Zenescope Entertainment this week with Van Helsing: Return of the League of Monsters.
Liesel Van Helsing has protected the nights from vampires, werewolves, and creatures beyond nightmares for years. Now, all of her deadliest foes return in one final attempt to break the famed hunter: Dracula’s Daughter, Frankenstein, the Beast of Exmoor, the Invisible Woman and more launch an all-out assault against the hero. Before they let her die, though, they have a plan to break her down in a way that she’s never been before. Will this be the end for Van Helsing?

It's great to see the return of Van Helsing and doubly so to see her being written by Pat Shand. This issue starts off this story which looks to be trying of stone loose ends, but possibly starting so new ones.
Nevertheless, this issue doesn't go the full traditional route. The villains are teaming up, but they all have their own motivations. They all see themselves in different ways, some as the hero, some as a monster and some are just evil. Even so, the teamwork well and it's seems that the plan is working.
Poor Van Helsing, things were going a little too well and there is an event that I think long-term readdress knew was coming - even that goes a different way than expected.
There are some revelations too, and an interesting one which I think it's going to have done major ramifications in the next issue.
There is some good fun with the art here. With city scenes, action and something a little darker.
This is a good issue and fun to read. I'm already looking forward to the conclusion!
