Review: Vatican City #3
From Dark Horse Comics
Completing this short mini-series, it’s Vatican City #3 from Dark Horse Comics, and it’s out now!
The stunning conclusion to the three-part vampire apocalypse saga as the last humans on Earth trapped inside Vatican City are whittled down to just a handful as they try to make their escape with a billion vampires waiting outside and the end of the world fast approaching.
by Mark Millar (Author), Per Berg (Cover Art, Artist)
Things move pretty quickly in this final issue. Partly because of my surprise that this was only a 3-issue mini-series, and partly to get to an interesting resolution.
We pick up where issue two left off, with the vampire queen in possession of the humans and a plan to use her body as a hostage to allow safe passage for the remaining living to escape the vampire threat.
Things seem to work well until an over-excited nun1 makes things go sideways.
What follows is a taut sequence as escapes are made. It brings certain aspects home until there is an interesting revelation to finish it all off.
Of course, there is a slight twist, which makes the ending worth a second read, as I did, and look back.
This was an entertaining series with some good parts - not the link to The Magic Order I thought it would have, though.
I liked the art, and the style fit in with the vampire apocalyptic visions, especially in some of the final panels of the book.
