Two new comics are out this week from the mind of Mark Millar and are available from Image Comics. This is American Jesus: Revelation #1 & The Magic Order 3 #4.
American Jesus: Revelation #1
The third and final volume of the MILLAR & GROSS Antichrist trilogy is finally here-and coming soon as a live-action horror series from Netflix!
The apocalypse is upon us: Satan is in the White House and the returned Christ is all that stands between humanity and their enslavement in the New World Order.
Author: Mark Millar Artists: Peter Gross, and Tom Coker
We get some exciting time jumps here, with creation being one of them. We get the fall's origins from Heaven and man's creation. Then, we get a good idea of what those from Hell have been up to stop God’s work. It all builds up well, and here we are - at the end point of the planning.
It’s dark and twisted, and there are some nasty items, but I like how this builds up. There is some hope too, and I like that aspect, but the hope may be just as dark.
It builds on recent and less recent memories with a grim smile, and I like how this is portrayed. the characters are unlikable, with some interesting character moments.
The art is excellent, showing the mundane and the mystical with some excellent angles and dark tidings.
This is the beginning of the end…
The Magic Order 3 #4
Sasha Sanchez is a big gruff leg-breaker and ball-breaker but he also happens to be one of the most experienced wizards the Magic Order has ever known. Is he right to not trust Rosie Moonstone? And is he really going to murder a little girl based on a hunch?
Author: Mark Millar Artist: Gigi Cavenago
There is an immense feeling that everything is falling apart here. Different aspects of the magic world, which have held it together, now looking to go the wrong way. There are some dark times ahead, which are shown in this issue.
First of all, I did enjoy the multiverse theory used in this. I am a big fan of stories' use, which shows a new way of looking at their method and what happens next. The jumping between was clever, and now I want to see a comic following on from Dracula!
the dark aspects are well shown, with some strange goings-on behind the painting in the castle, things there might be going very bad, and I wonder where that will lead.
And then there is Rosie Moonstone - what will happen to her, and is her destiny what we think?
A good issue ramping up the threat level and adding more layers to this world.
