Captain Planet #2
Gaia, the latest High Priestess of the Earth, is under siege by the villainous Lucian Plunder and his never-ending supply of deadly tech and malevolent henchmen. Her only hope is to summon her newly empowered Planeteers to wield their elemental forces of Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart against her captors. But will the team be able to come together in time to bring the might of Captain Planet to bear against the polluters’ industrial-strength treachery?

After the initial introduction, this issue does an excellent job of bringing the gang together in more ways than one. In this single issue, a lot of heavy lifting is done to show us the different personalities and their powers. Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, and Heart all get their time to shine as a power set, and the characters who wield them also get to express their opinions and personalities.
Then, their powers combine, and we get Captain Planet. It’s a feel-good moment that works well with the pace of the story.
Across from the Planeteers, there are some scenery-chewing bad guys to deal with, and they are only slightly revamped for the modern age. Let’s face it, they don’t need to change much!
The artwork has a lot to do here, with extended battle scenes, powers, power suits, and some clever character work and expressions—luckily, the team is up to the task.
This was a highly enjoyable issue!

Space Ghost Annual #1
In SPACE GHOST ANNUAL #1, Robo Corp's long-running plans have finally been revealed, as the mind-altering A.I. known as Ultima has taken over the Galactic Federation! With Blip as the key to Robo Corp's universal domination, can Space Ghost and company stop the Council of Doom once and for all?

We're finishing off this ‘year one’ of Space Ghost, and we get an excellent conclusion to the ongoing story, some questions answered, and a tease for the future.
It is an excellent story. After the cliffhanger of the previous issue, we get an action-heavy issue with Space Ghost and the kids all getting their time to shine.
Using the Legion of Doom is excellent, as is the potential weakness in using them this way. Either way, it makes the battle less one-sided and some clever ideas for dispatching them.
This issue has it all, with an excellent and challenging villain, a sense of closure for the main characters and plenty of action. The epilogue sets us up neatly for the second volume of this excellent series with problems to deal with on the home front, as well as of more galactic importance. I’m looking forward to reading more!
