Reviews - Mothra: Queen Of The Monsters #2 & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8
From IDW Publishing
Two comics reviewed this week by IDW Publishing. The adventure continues in Mothra: Queen Of The Monsters #2 and there are still a lot of problems on their return to New York in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8.
Mothra: Queen Of Monsters #2
Mothra! The Queen of the Monsters! Rival to Godzilla! Protector of Earth! Dead! Wait dead?
That’s right! The Queen of the Monsters is currently no more that is, at least not in this time period! But with the power of the Shobijin, our recently reunited twins can travel back in time to the Jurassic Period and find a baby Mothra they can raise to save the day! It’s a simple plan, really.

Time travel and time loops never end well, and in this issue, there are many time-related problems to deal with.
It all fits together well, as there are the past adventures to get a new Mothra to fight the foe, as well as something that the girls (and us) aren’t being told!
I like how it all looped around, though. It looks like there is a way forward for the later issues in this adventure.
This issue has some entertaining artwork, with big battle scenes and the use of magic. I also like the differences in some of the reactions.
This continues to be an entertaining mini-series.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8
Donnie’s on the edge! Once the most reliable and risk averse of the TMNT, Donatello’s mind is spinning out of control following his violent stay in captivity.
Fortunately his brothers are there to protect him from the army of Foot Clan ninjas bent on destroying them all, but how can the Ninja Turtles save Donatello from the ‘voice’ of their dead master Splinter that Donnie insists he’s hearing in his head!?

Things are still not clicking between the brothers, and this issue concentrates mainly on Leonardo and how he should deal with the problem of Donatello. Donatello is mentally broken, but there seems to be a semblance of something there - this is causing more tension, though, as the others don’t see it. Leonardo attempts to make progress here, but it isn’t until it may be too late that he starts to see. Will Raphael and Michaelangelo follow suit? I expect they will in some way, but that is yet to be seen.
On the darker side, the attacks are still being blamed on normal citizens of the city, making things harder for the mutants. I’m also interested to see where the story goes for Karai!
