Out now in print and digitally from Zenescope Entertainment are two new comics. A one-shot story in Robyn Hood: Dark Shaman and one story continuing in Oz: Kingdom Of The Lost #2.
Robyn Hood: Dark Shaman
Robyn and Ghosthawk travel to the American badlands to uncover the source of the Shaman Warrior’s power. Their search leads them to one of the most evil forces in Native American folklore... and into a battle they will be lucky to survive.
Writer Joe Brusha, Artwork Alessio Mariani, Colors Juan Manuel Rodriguez, Letters Taylor Esposito (Of Ghost Glyph Studios), Editor David Wohl and Production & Design Christopher Cote
Although under the Robyn Hood banner, this is more of a Ghosthawk story. And that is fine. Ghosthawk has been a constant in Robyn’s world recently; seeing more of him is good. This issue allows us to delve deeper into his lore and his powers.
While seeking answers, Robyn and Ghosthawk journey to Ghosthawk’s ancestral lands. There are some answers there, but also some problems. The Dark Shaman.
This Dark Shaman seems to be a mirror of Ghosthawk and looks to be an interesting foil to him and possibly Robyn in the future - don’t let the ending fool you.
This issue is well made up. There is a fair amount of action, with some in the physical and some in the mystical. Even so, it works well on different levels. The final battle is not only played well but the use of the art and effects go well with the story.
A good one-shot that builds on supporting character for the future.
Oz: Kingdom Of The Lost #2
Deep in the heart of Winkie Country, Dorothy and her team have traveled far in search of their long lost (and feared dead) companion, Nicholas, the Tin Woodsman, and they have finally found him. Now they just need to survive the experience!
Story Dave Franchini & David Wohl, Writer David Wohl, Artwork Guillermo Fajardo & Eduardo Garcia, Colors Walter Pereyra, Letters Taylor Esposito (Of Ghost Glyph Studios), Editor David Wohl and Production & Design Christopher Cote
Building on the first issue adventures. The group is underground in Oz, with some strange tunnelling creatures attacking them. This made for a claustrophobic battle with some close calls and magic being used up.
As the adventure continues, there is an interesting saviour with a welcome return. This return leads the rest of this issue well - but something is not quite right.
This makes an interesting point of suspense, and there is an interesting reveal of the problems at the end of this issue. And I do wonder how that will play out in the final issue. The main story is fast-paced, with a little slowdown between the action. This, combined with the backup origin, was well done.
