Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11, Star Trek: Red Shirts #2 & Blood Honey
From IDW Publishing
This week, I’ve reviewed three new comics from IDW Publishing, including courtroom and mutant drama in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11, interplanetary action in Star Trek: Red Shirts #2, and a one-shot story in Blood Honey.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11
With the Ninja Turtles on trial for a murder they didn't commit, Casey Jones fighting for his life in a devastating coma, and the city overrun by Foot Patrol thugs, New York has but one hope to turn the tide: April O'Neil?
by Jason Aaron (Author), Juan Ferreyra (Artist)
This was an excellent conclusion to this part of the story arc. The court case and everything else seemed stacked against the brothers. From the outset, with the narration, we could see that things did not go exactly as planned.
I liked the humour with it all, and the way things go downhill fast gave me a satisfied grin. And I did like the general Foot Clan soldiers/ninjas’ reactions.
This isn’t over yet, with a welcome cameo from Karai, and some mutant/magic added into the mix. This adds some welcome action for the next issue and a new hurdle for the TMNT to get over.
A brilliant issue with all the characters and previous aspects all coming together.

Star Trek: Red Shirts #2
After weathering the deaths of their crewmates, the Red Shirts who survived hurtling to Arkonia 89 in torpedo casings have rendezvoused with Lieutenant Cromarty in his underground base. Their mission: to bed down and wait for enemy spies to take the bait they've laid in a data disk at the base of a subspace antenna. But little do the Federation officers know, they aren't the only ones looking for unsuspecting prey...
by Christopher Cantwell (Author), Megan Levens (Artist)
The curse of the red shirts continues, and this issue adds to the tally. This was a packed issue with a lot going on between the characters and plenty of action.
There is something deeper going on here, and I wonder how this will all pan out. Does Starfleet know? Or is it something they are trying to draw out? There is a good degree of mystery here, with masked spies and shadowy characters to discover.
In addition to this, there is some brilliant artwork—especially with the dangerous flaura and fauna on this planet—and some excellently plotted panels.

Blood Honey
Young love always feels like life or death — and at this high school, it is.
In this Burton-esque macabre world, young lovers Vanessa De La Mora and Edgar St. Claire are at the top of the food chain at Manderlay Preparatory High School. They should be focusing on their upcoming crowning as homecoming queen and king, but lately the duo have grown weary and resentful of each other. While breaking up seems like the easy solution, they've both independently decided that all of their problems would be solved if the other was, well... dead.
Join up-and-coming writer/artist Sean Peacock in this exciting cat-and-cat game as two teens try to murder each other in increasingly elaborate fashion!
I picked this up on a whim and found myself drawn into this dark love story that goes on forever.
In a big way!
Two high school lovers find themselves at odds with each other at the ultra-competitive high school. Things go from bad to worse as the methods for dispatching each other become more extreme.
Along with that, there is an excellent cast of supporting characters who have some say in what is happening—either by helping, hindering, or trying to stop the madness.
An excellent story and one that put me in mind of the below song…
