Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 & TMNT: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution #4
From IDW Publishing
This week, two TMNT-related comics are out: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 and TMNT: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution #4 from IDW Publishing.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6
The Turtles are back together, on the run, and at one another’s throats. Navigating a New York City that used to be their home but is now a hostile territory, the four brothers try to get things back to normal, but Donatello is deeply scarred following his captivity. Will the four brothers be able to rally? Or will they find themselves at the mercy of the Foot Clan?
Author: Jason Aaron
Artist: Juan Ferreyra
Having the brothers back together is one thing, but making it work is another. This issue gets the four back to New York, but the tendons between them all is plain too see. They are not a cohesive unit and Donatello doesn't have a cohesive mind.
To my thinking this is done excellent storytelling. The heroes are being broken down to as low as they can go, and in this issue they get low. The relationships are fractured, the city is overrun by the Foot and nothing is going right for them.
From this point the only way is up.
This issue combines some excellent artwork - showing the gritty underside of the city, the back and forth between the TMNT and some gnarly action.
The colouring and tones were perfect and the art style fits well with the story being told.
I expect things will continue to be bad for the brothers, but I'm gripped to see how this pans out.

TMNT: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution #4
The criminal underworld’s takeover of New York City is ongoing, and the violence is escalating as the city is overwhelmed by gang warfare in the streets.
When co-ordinated attacks threaten to fully destroy the Resistance, April executes an untested contingency plan, and her allies and enemies alike must flee to safety.
With the city so dangerous, though, there’s few places of sanctuary left. As Resistance survivors retreat to an old stronghold, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles must reconcile the past with the present in the penultimate issue of the Re-Evolution story!
Authors: Kevin Eastman, and Tom Waltz
Artists: Various, and Ben Bishop
In this alternate future, the new evolution are still finding their way. This adventure sets a lot up for the future and also showcases their skills.
Yes there are some new skills to show and that adds to the story will, the introductions of these aspects have been well done through the story and I like how they are used here.
April, and Casey, are taking a stronger lead here and it's a resistance army who are at their defining moment. There are some nice surprises here, along with some building of the enemy, this was an exciting read.
Combining the ninja-action, with this future is a tough ask, but the artwork gets it with some great art and angles.
