Two new comics from Dark Horse Comics, written by Mark Millar. We’ve got the penultimate issue of The Magic Order 5 and the final issue of Night Club 2.
The Magic Order 5 #5
When Cordelia broke the rules to save her family all those years ago, she knew she would have to pay the price. Now the debt is being called in as the universe’s greatest assassin is sent to destroy her and bury her beside the rest of The Magic Order.

The penultimate issue sets the stage for the final issue. There is some fun with time and some character endings. I like the way the playing field has been levelled, and there is a lot to take into this issue.
Cordelia is in a bad place, and things worsen as this issue progresses. There is some fallout for the next issue, and I wonder how that will be worked around.
There are some big scenes here, and the artwork does a fantastic job of showing these big magical action scenes and the characters reacting. I also love the colouring in this issue; it makes things stand out the right way.
Cordelia does get some unexpected help, which could be seen as a spoiler for the next issue, but even so, like magic, you want to see how it plays out.

Night Club 2 #6
The shocking conclusion to the second volume. Heroes are dead and villains are triumphant, but one thing about vampire stories is that even the coldest and most rotting corpse might not stay dead for long!

This final issue does double the work!
First, it brings the Night Club back together to face a foe of their own making. I like the way this is done. There is a certain amount of contrition from the trio, and their working together is well done. Their relationships seem to be mended.
There are some excellent moments in battling the gangster vampires that culminate in their defeat. There are no spoilers, but I liked how this was a callback to a previous issue and a lesser-remembered piece of vampire lore. It wraps things up nicely for the Night Club, too.
Or does it?
No. On top or a reveal which makes sense from a previous issue, there is trouble on the horizon for the teenage vampires. On top of that, it looks like others are aware of their powers and who they are. This leaves the question of whether they will be helping the Night Club ambiguous. It was an excellent finish.
