Reviews - Van Helsing: Bonded By Blood & Myst: Dragon's Guard
Out now from Zenescope Entertainment
I'm looking at two new comics out now from Zenescope Entertainment, with Van Helsing: Bonded By Blood and Myst: Dragon's Guard out in print and digitally.
Van Helsing: Bonded By Blood
Liesel Van Helsing’s past has been marred in blood and betrayal, but none so life-changing than the revelation of the existence of her half-sister Charlotte le Fanu, better known as Dracula’s Daughter. Although siblings by blood, there is no love lost between these two sisters set on either side of the stake. But, now forced into a situation where they must rely upon one another, can Liesel survive the family reunion?!

This is quite an intense issue. With more than the usual 31 pages of content, it’s not as much as some, but it manages to pack in many action and story moments.
Van Helsing is looking into the mysterious company that may or may not have anything to do with Julie’s condition. And although she was expecting some trouble, I think the sheer scale of it is more than she expected.
Not only do we get the classic (and old) vampires, but we also get some very human monsters and something more.
These hybrids appear to attempt to make vampires the next step in evolution. The company is stronger and more immune and has something else - Van Helsing’s half-sister.
Also known as Dracula’s daughter, she still has her issues, and although it appears these are not problems for Van Helsing, there are bigger problems to deal with.
This was a good issue and marks the next step for Van Helsing and what happens moving forward…

Building on the return of Sela to the Grimm Universe, this issue takes us deep into the lore of Myst. I like how this is built up and brings us more from a realm we don’t often get.
The Dragon’s Guard are an interesting group, and it looks like there are some issues within them. I liked how it built on the group's history, bringing us all up to date with the how and why they are now.
There is a good combination of action and adventure here, with some good scenes combining magic and swords. The changes in locations take us from underground and up high. There are a good group of characters and something for us moving forward.

I was unaware of “Myst” until this post. How do they get around the famous (and still extant) video game series’s lawyers!
