Introducing a whole new science fiction world can be tough. In the world of Agent 1.22 there is a lot to take in, but this story does an excellent job of introducing both characters and concepts correctly.
The introductory monologue contains a lot of information. Cunningly blending some musings with a mission statement, it teaches us what we need to continue. Then, we are into the initial action.
This action continues doing a fine job of showing us part of what Agent 1.22 is about and what she is used for. Of course, there is more to it than that!
First of all, though, the action! This is well placed and combines fast-moving panels with excellent science fiction elements. From humans to robots, there are unique ideas and explosive parts to it all. This also includes some space-faring aspects with some brilliant spaceship designs.
The backstory works well, being obvious to us, the reader, but you want to delve deeper as the characters reveal some of the deeper, darker information. Some characters have some interesting traits, and their motives may not be entirely clear (yet), but the building blocks are there for you to discover in the future.
The characters and the framing of this story are well done. It has been plotted well and builds up nicely for what may come in the future.
This is an excellent, gripping science fiction beginning. It introduces some interesting concepts and some grey areas regarding who to support. I’m looking forward to seeing where it takes us next!
