One thing I love about digital comics is the way you can discover new titles, new genres and new talents. In some cases, it leads you on a trail of discovery -that is one reason why I have championed digital comics. Geography doesn’t really come into it, and I have read comics from across the globe. Saurabh Bhatia contacted me about a new way to find new comics - Comix.
Saurabh Bhatia, Founder and CEO of Comix of Sydney, Australia Launches COMIX an end-to-end ecosystem for Indie comics creators that help bring their comic ideas to life.
Comix is on a mission to create tools for the comic creators that can help them focus on creating their best work and fans can keep discovering awesome Indie Comics. Comix provides a platform and tools that will help you take your comics business to the next level all while retaining 100% IP of your original characters through a marketplace for back-issues. The next few phases of our ecosystem would be adding Crowdfunding, portfolio management, fan retention,a mobile app for readers and much more this year.
Our goal is offer tools for Indie comic book creators and fans alike.
Comix allows creators to list back-issues on their marketplace platform for free, once they have finished their crowdfunding run. For every sale, creators keep 85% and Comix keeps 15% in platform fee. This allows them to be discovered by a new set of audience. For the fans of comics, We will offer a diverse set of comics and creators spanning across genres and cultures and a convenient way to purchase and access them on the go.
With Comix, creators can sell, distribute their existing catalog of books via our marketplace. They also get tools to manage their storefront, team profiles, portfolios and products.
They retain 100% ownership and control of the IP of their OCs to themselves.
Readers can purchase directly from these creators storefronts and can choose from a wide range of genres like Horror, science-fiction, superheroes etc. To start with their purchases will be available to them via web with the mobile apps to follow it shortly.
“We realize making comic books is as much a creative endeavor as a business venture. So, we aim to build professional tools that empower independent comic book creators to run their comic book business and do what large publishers are able to do as well. Whether this means bringing their projects to life via crowdfunding or finding new fans for their existing catalog or helping them with fan retention, we have a full range of features planned for our creators. The aim is to help them reach a wider range of audience and let them focus on growing their comics business.“, said Saurabh, the Founder of Comix.
In the last few years, Indie comics sales have skyrocketed particularly via crowdfunding channels. On Kickstarter alone, $31 million worth of comics are being sold each year and has one of the highest success rates of any crowdfunding category. This has also given a big boost to the supporting businesses like Podcasts, blogs, and comic focused marketing agencies. Comix is perfectly placed to facilitate this rise of Indie comics and help Indie creators provide fresh comics directly to their readers.
“Readers and fans of comics can expect a wide selection of authentic stories told from unique perspectives and a continuous discovery of fresh content at Comix. They can also feel safe in ability to save and access their collection of comic books on the go. Lastly, buying directly from the creators they can be assured, their purchase is helping an Indie creator work towards creating more and better content!“, said Saurabh.

Comixology falling apart may have been the best thing to happen to digital comics. It still hurts, but seeing marketplaces like Comix, GlobalComix and Omnibus popping up are huge! Plus, with the big boys getting involved with "unlimited" style platforms, we may be entering a whole new era of comics.
Very excited to see all of it flourishing.
