Mismatched is undoubtedly the word here, and we get thrust right into the story here in this first volume.
What starts out as what appears to be some boring job interviews quickly moves forward, and we see this new team in action.
It’s a jarring moment, but as you delve into the story, it settles down well, and we start to really learn about the different characters, their motivations, and powers.
The back and forth between the team members is excellent; it’s not all nicely spoken and heroic, and there are some fun moments, which, as we learn about the characters, reveal their personalities in little ways. This brings you, as the reader, closer to the team and what they are up to.
There is a lot of scope for the action, too, with various threats of different types rearing their head throughout this volume. You get that they are feeling their way as much as you are learning about them. They may possess these powers, but they need to know how to utilise them and work as a team.
I enjoyed the artwork here, and there was a lot to take in within this comic, with wide action shots, close-up and claustrophobic settings and plenty of use of science-fiction elements, powers and blasts - in all an excellent action comic!
This was an excellent beginning volume, featuring some great characters to learn about, engaging action, and intriguing mysteries that can be explored through both short-term and long-term storytelling.
