Fund Me Friday: Glow
Now on Kickstarter is Glow #7 from Mythworks. The Kickstarter also includes previous issues of the series as a catch-up.
Half a millennia ago, an ancient and powerful empire known as Nymera developed a means to channel and store magical energy into a sticky blue substance known as anima, storing them into massive Towers across the world.
With the aid of the Towers, the Nymerans brought peace and paradise into the world. Until one day the Towers fell. The story of Glow takes place two hundred years after that cataclysmic event, and follows those who remain.
Follow the adventure in a world where mutated creatures and bandits roam the Wastes, scavengers scour the ancient ruins for anything that will help them survive in this brave new world, and learn the language unique to the series - Nymeran.

Diving into the first six issues of Glow, you get an excellent idea of the sheer scale of the story and the world in which it is set.
There are various factions and groups, along with the different individual wants and needs of living in this desert full of mutated monsters and other groups who want more. The story does a fantastic job of building up this aspect, along with the worldโs magic, technology and politics. Those in charge have various means and special powers in some cases, and along with them, there are other threats to worry about.
The story is being told cleverly, gradually bringing in new characters on both the side of good and evil. There are also those whose motives arenโt entirely clear, making it an interesting story.
As the story progresses over these initial six issues, we see the main characters grow and move away from their comfort zone - in most cases, not by choice, but it is well-told why this is happening.
There is some excellent artwork throughout the story, with grand vistas across the desert setting and town-centric artwork in the fortifications and defenses. More of these aspects appear later in the siege scenes, and the panels are well-planned. I love the colouring here and the use of brighter colours for magical and rune-based aspects of the story, making these points pop well.
