It’s always fantastic when someone contacts me to tell me about their comics—usually through social media or my contact page—and this is no different. Musalman hails from India and has a great-looking creative team behind it. Intrigued, I had to check it out, and wow!
Musalman is a satirical superhero series that brings a playful twist to the world of capes and crime-fighting. It follows India’s one and only Muslim superhero as he tackles both villains and the quirks of everyday life. With a blend of humor and action, Musalman offers a fresh, irreverent take on modern issues and cultural dynamics, all while saving the day in style.
I’m not too hot on the political and religious tensions and aspects in India, but I do recognise that having a Muslim superhero could be seen as controversial. Although there are always those who are going to take offence to any satire, I found my binge-read into Musalman an enjoyable selection of comics.
Considering India’s broad history and cultures, Musalman is fantastic at being all-inclusive, mocking those in power and some entertaining superheroics.
There are some clever puns and jokes to be made with some of the characters, and I’m sure there are some references that passed over my head, but even so, I found I could get into reading the characters, the action and what the needs and wants of the characters are.
There are also some fun artwork experiments to be had here, especially with the action sequences and some far-out space aspects. I especially enjoyed the colouring and some of the panel choices being made.
This is a great collection of comics, and worth checking out online and supporting those who made it for the love of comics.
