One unique aspect of GlobalComix is that they have a special section for comics that are currently crowdfunding. This allows readers to get a peek at what is available before they back it.
In this case, Comics Unknown has Gaia’s Succession #1, which is going to be launched on IndieGoGo. Previously featured in the anthology Phantasmagoria. This builds on the story…
Follow Janet Green, an eco-activist transformed by nature into a powerful force after a corporation seeks to destroy the Pine Rocklands. Support the fight for justice, environmental protection, and vengeance in this thrilling, action-packed tale!
With the environmental concerns being big - and seeping into comics too - it was interesting to see the introduction of this character in Phantasmagoria. Now she has her own issue, which expands on the introduction and adds more to the story.
Janet, an environmental activist, is brutally killed and brought back to life by Gaia. What follows is a bloody path of revenge which eventually ends with Janet being taken down a peg or two. That’s not to say that she doesn’t get some measure of vengence against those that killed her, but that was not what she was revived for.
After a brief timejump, she returns and things are a lot more measured. This success looks to have brought more foes out of the woodwork though and it adds some interesting aspects and battles for the character moving forwards.
This was an interesting read, and gives us a good idea of the good/evil sides of the battle, but the initial revenge path was not the way to go - resetting it and giving another chance was a good way of allowing the character to get her licks in and then resetting her role.
I liked the action and it was pretty gory! This juxtaposes nicely with the environmental message and the colouring. I enjoyed some of the more subtle aspects of the artwork - like the looking at the hands in the initial ‘rebirth’
This looks to be an entertaining read.
