From All-New All-Awesome Comics is a classic four-issue mini-series which is available digitally. Check out the details on Halloween Team.

Years ago, five misfit kids banded together to form Halloween Team - a group dedicated to solving mysteries and hunting monsters in the small town of Greenwood, MA. Now, twenty years later, the kids are grown and lead separate lives - until a new mystery brings them together for one more adventure.

First things first. This mini-series nicely bookends the past with some excellent moments between the group. The ending is slightly bittersweet, with some teases of what may come from this group.

With that out of the way, this issue is mostly in the present day, with some good flashbacks throughout.

I must admit, when I saw the premise and the blurb. I did wonder what type of monster-solving this would be. Is it the classic Scooby-Doo, where the monsters were the creepy old fairground owner? Or was it the Scooby-Doo, where the ghosts were real?

I won’t answer that one, but you do get an answer, and the story skillfully keeps you unaware of the answer. When you get it, it’s full-on and has some excellent scenes.

The story builds up well across the four issues. The characters within all are built up well, and the story is strong in character moments and action. There is some good humour and nostalgia for all of those involved. The characters are well-rounded and defined.

I enjoyed the art and colouring, with some special colouring and clever lettering. The character expressions are well done, with some good moments between them all.

It did feel a little slow starting, but then hit the ground and didn’t stop. Once I started on issue #1, especially with the ending it gives you, I wanted to see what happens next.

The ending gives us some closure, but it and some other hints throughout the story give us something to look forward to, and I hope we see more of the Halloween Team.

On the darker side of crowdfunders though, some will know that some projects will fall through.
