From Soaring Penguin Press and currently, crowdfunding is Nord by Martin Simpson.
A Viking King who has lost EVERYTHING, a devious plot hatched by the trickster God Loki and a quest to defeat Death itself!
Nordic mythology is always interesting to me, and this tale takes some of that and leads us on a dark path. It is like an adult fairytale, and you could see this story fitting in with Neil Gaiman writing it. It is well crafted as we start at the end - the king is dead, and this is what happens next. Loki is back and causing more trouble, which is what he is known for, and Odin is jealous.
The introduction kicks us off well, with some good building of the main event, which is the journey across the netherworld.
The path is complex, and it finishes with an excellent crescendo and a perfectly fitting finish to the style of the story.
In style, the artwork and pacing of the story are well done, with some excellent use of colours and tone - this is a striking read.
