Marc Jackson is behind the excellent series SPOOKIDS that I featured last year.
That was a crazy - yet highly enjoyable read. Now Marc has a new edition added to his excellent stable of art and comics - SPACE FARTZ.
Yes, you read that correctly - SPACE FARTZ! When Marc contacted me about this, how could I refuse? I loved reading SPOOKIDS, so was sure I was in for a ride when I dived in!
Introducing characters such as Kirp Scheppy and Alan, Bob Zoppy, Bimf Wingo, and Captain Joan Brazone, there is much to take in, and it’s all fantastic zany fun.
Jumping into issue one, you are immediately thrown into the world with fantastic designs and brilliant dialogue. There’s real slapstick humour in here, plus some comedy which wouldn’t feel out of place from a Beano or a classic Danger Mouse episode.
A side note - I would disagree with Marc’s wife on her review of this, but respect her opinion.
The second issue brings us some new characters and some fun sci-fi aspects. There are some fun designs with the art and liberties taken (many) with physics. Who needs the laws of physics when reading this is so much fun.
The third issue closes off the arc with classic irreverence and a read Monty Python feel. The stinger at the end is excellent and brings us full circle.
But wait, there’s more.
Yes, coming this weekend is SPACE FARTZ TOO!
Yes, it has returned, and there is more of the same. It’s still a highly entertaining read, with some excellent art. There are some interesting pop-culture references in there too, and spotting some of them is great fun. I’ve had a sneak peek at issue one, and I can say this is the perfect pick-me-up to check out after a long day. It sticks in your head and is well worth a re-read too.
