Top Shelf Set to Release We Are Pan, The Extraordinary Story of the Children Who Escaped Castro’s Cuba
Out in June 2026, an intriguing new OGN from Top Shelf - We Are Pan.
Family or freedom? Top Shelf Productions invite you to discover the astonishing history of the mass evacuation of Cuban children, leaving communism—and their loved ones—behind, with the unforgettable original graphic novel, WE ARE PAN, available June 2, 2026. This debut graphic novel from professional illustrator and storyteller, Andre Frattino with art by Yasmin Flores Montanez beautifully captures the devastation and hope of those affected by the Castro regime in the early 1960s, and includes a foreword from descendant, critically acclaimed and award-winning author, Alex Segura (Secret Identity, Alter Ego).

We Are Pan is based on the true story of Operación Pedro Pan, a joint effort between the U.S. government and the Catholic Welfare Bureau to evacuate 14,000 children from Cuba to the U.S. between 1960 and 1962. With the rise of communism following Fidel Castro’s revolution, parents feared for their children’s future and, through this secret operation, secured passage for them to America. These children (later referred to as “Pedro Pans”) would be distributed across the U.S., mostly living in foster homes. In many cases, these children never saw their families again, and their lives would be changed forever. This is their story.
We Are Pan will be available wherever books are sold, as a full-color hardcover (ISBN: 978-1-60309-592-1) on June 2, 2026, for a list price of $19.99. For more information please visit the Top Shelf website.
Heart Over Hardware: A Cult Classic Returns to the Page!
A movie from my childhood - and now The Last Starfighter returns from Mad Cave Studios.
Long cherished by science-fiction fans for its heart, ambition, and outsider heroism, The Last Starfighter returns in a format that honors its legacy while making it newly accessible to today’s readers.
Mad Cave Studios proudly presents THE LAST STARFIGHTER MOVIE ADAPTATION, a newly collected paperback edition of the original three-issue comic adaptation of the cult-classic film.

In 1984, The Last Starfighter thrilled movie-goers all over, and for comic book readers hungry for more science fiction, it was a revelation. Now the three-part comic adaptation of the beloved film gets new life in an exclusive collection! The project, led by the original screenwriter Jonathan Betuel and producer Paul Davidson, is an exclusive 80-page edition, featuring an all-star cast of creators with a story by Bill Mantlo (Cloak and Dagger), art by Bret Blevins (X-Men, Batman) and Tony Salmons (Dakota North: Designed for Dying), colors by Christie Scheele, and lettering by Rick Parker, with original covers by the late Jackson Guice. Together, this creative team delivers a faithful and heartfelt adaptation that captures what made The Last Starfighter endure: a sense of wonder, its unlikely hero, and its belief that courage can come from anywhere!
Jonathan Betuel spoke of this exciting release with Mad Cave Studios:
“Each film made is like running a gauntlet against incredible odds. And a successful film is truly a gift. An enduring film that lives on through word-of-mouth is indeed like pulling the sword from the stone. Personally, the warm audience embrace of the film over time has been a surprise bequest to the original team, who never spoke of, nor even dared hope for—The Last Starfighter tale of a gamer-kid trapped in a backwater trailer park who saves the universe, the whales, and those he loves, mirrors the film’s creative journey.
In this day and age of bigger, bigger, bigger special effects to save imperiled cinematic worlds in the final seconds of climactic endings—The Last Starfighter’s special sauce then—and in the upcoming expanded universe—will continue to lead the charge with ‘Heart Over Hardware’.”
The influence of The Last Starfighter has only grown with time, resonating across generations of creators and fans alike—its DNA visible in modern science-fiction storytelling that prioritizes emotional stakes over spectacle alone.”
Paul Davidson added, “The Last Starfighter is a movie that thrilled me when I first saw it, inspired me on every subsequent viewing, and continues to be one of the most satisfying wish-fulfillment movies ever. When I had the opportunity to work with Jonathan on helping to bring new stories to audiences in the Starfighter universe, I was over the moon. It’s a dream to be involved in this iconic world in any small way.”
With this collection, Mad Cave Studios celebrates not just a film, but the enduring spirit behind it, one that continues to remind audiences that heroism doesn’t require perfection, only heart.
The Last Starfighter Movie Adaptation soars into comic shops and select bookstores on June 23, 2026, in paperback (ISBN: 9781545827062 | $17.99) format. Final order cut-off is June 1. Preorder today from your LCS or Mad Cave Studios, and be on the lookout for more new adventures on the way!
