I’ve always had a strong interest in mythology, and different myths worldwide have always fascinated me. I’ve read books, watched TV series, and even got comics based on different myths. Yes, some are edited for dramatic purposes (see Moana), but the basis is usually there.
Originally, I planned to do a ‘mythical monsters A-Z’ with a monster from each country1, but then I wondered if it would be something people would be interested in reading in Custard.
And so, kicking off the first in this series - in the Jam Roly-Poly issue, is the ‘Al’ from Afghan mythology.
This is one that I had never heard of and seems very interesting. As with many of myths, there are variations across country borders and regions. There are also different names too.
Read more about the Al in Custard - The Jam Roly-Poly Issue. You can get it here on my Gumroad store and further issues of Custard here.
Also available is my art book - Drawing for a Month, and a selection of comic strips called …And Then…?
This still may happen in the far, far future…
