New from Literati Press and out now is a new one-shot story. This is Haunted, Beloved.
'Til death do us part...? Following a fatal accident, a newly incorporeal lover makes an earnest attempt to reconnect with their widow. But will their paranormal meddling be for better or for worse?
By Natasha Alterici
On started reading this I had no idea what was to come. Sometimes I don’t read the preview so I can read it raw. And this is how I felt after reading Haunted, Beloved.
It starts out with a death, and after the wake the loneliness sets in. The look at the two cups is especially well done, and these are the catalyst to the rest of the story. We then get the return of the deceased and in a well-laid-out and told story, their attempts at making some sort of contact from beyond the void.
There is a good degree of humour in here, with some parts that gave me a wry smile, but you still got the sense of hurt and desperation from both parties.
In the end, there is some form of closure for all involved, and this works out really well.
The art is excellent, with some interesting characters, and some well-done special effects. The colouring is perfect with some washed tones and it suits the style of the story.
This is a touching and special read, and worth checking out. With some sad moments, some humour and a good finish to the story.
Haunted, Beloved is a story about love, death, grief, and closure. It marks the return of Alterici to drawing a full issue after she developed severe carpal tunnel syndrome working on the second volume of Heathen. She continued writing, and was able to get corrective surgery in October 2021. The characters in Haunted, Beloved grapple with loss and loneliness in this sweet, supernatural tale. Alterici thanks the generosity of her fans and family for her return to comics, saying, “It's been a difficult time, but I was able to focus on my writing, and am now very excited to share these new stories with you.” And don’t worry, Alterici and Literati Press have more big news coming soon. Haunted, Beloved will be available at comic shops everywhere (Previews Code MAY2216210), direct from literatipressok.com, and digitally through GlobalComix and Comixology/Kindle.
