The revival continues, and in this issue, Michaelangelo is viewed in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 from IDW Publishing.
Michelangelo is living in Tokyo, where he’s become a big TV star. It’s a pretty cool life, full of fame and fortune, but if he’s being honest, Mikey misses his brothers and the sense of purpose they had together. Well, in a classic case of ‘be careful what you wish for,’ that old life looks like it’s coming to find him when ninjas show up in his apartment armed to the teeth!

After the initial issue of the new TMNT series concentrated on Raphael, we now see what Michaelangelo is up to.
He seems to be living the good life, making movies and being a star, but we can see that things are not quite right with the turtle. He misses his brothers, and he misses what made them a team. There is some fascinating commentary on using his weapons, and Michaelangelo beats himself up about that.
Luckily for him, some ninjas want to help with that.
An excellent action sequence follows that looks at Michaelangelo deeply, including his skills, methods, and thoughts on himself and being a ninja. It also shows how clever he can be - something that I think people forget - and I like the use of light in both the battle and the artwork.
There are some difficulties for him, though, and the appearance at the end is well done and has an excellent cliffhanger for the next issue. This is a good build for the brothers to get back together, and it is well thought out.
As mentioned above, the use of light is well done in the art, and it is a brilliant action piece. This also uses some clever angles and other methods in the panelling.
An excellent re-introduction!
