Out this week is the second issue of the video nasty series from Vault Comics - The Nasty #2 is out now!
Thumper Connell has always wanted to make his own scary movie, and now he has the chance. The problem is he has no cast, no crew, no equipment, no budget, and no time. What he does have, though, is a group of resourceful, horror-loving friends, a video tape with strange powers, and a hulking, spike-wielding imaginary pal. He is imaginary, right?
Writer: John Lees, Artist, Cover Artist: George Kambadais & Variant Cover Artist: Sally Cantirino
Building on the excellent introduction, The Nasty #2 features an excellent montage of Thumper building towards creating her new video, nasty. This works on many levels with the separate parts of the movie being put together - actors, locations, costumes and, of course, the lead part. It’s all well played out and has excellent humour and character moments.
The build to the creation of the movie’s first take is well done, with some excellent moments, which not only build the relationships with the main characters but also the town and the surrounding issues.
There is also an excellent point that puts pressure on the movie's creation.
There is some fun artwork within, with the characters being met and a well-played-out montage. Their different people are fun to see, and their various ideas are shown in their expressions.
Then there is the final page…
What are the rules I wonder?
An excellent second issue with some good build towards the movie being made.
