This week, Dark Horse Comics released two Mark Millar-written comics, The Magic Order 5 #3 and Night Club 2 #4, in print and digital formats.
The Magic Order 5 #3
One by one, The Magic Order have been murdered, paying the price for Cordelia Moonstone using black magic back in volume one. Now she’s forced to turn to the most unlikely allies in a bid to make sure the Earth remains protected when she’s gone.

One thing I enjoy about this series is the various characters and powers that can pop up. In this case, there are some very interesting assassins who are out for Cordelia. This was an excellent issue, with a threat to challenge the defenders and a more significant threat waiting in the wings.
The art and style of this is excellent combining the magical and the mundane. I love the colouring and style of it, with some smooth edges and elver play on light and dark.
I’m not sure (or guessing) where this is going in this story, but I am enjoying the ride.

Night Club II #4
The school Jocks were bad enough when they were regular human beings. Now they’re vampires they’re terrorising the town and not even the cops can stop them. Can Danny and Amy put the genie back in the bottle now vampirism is spreading through the school?
Author: Mark Millar
Artist: Juanan Ramirez
It’s always darker before dawn, and I think that with Vampire Heroes, that is a very apt comment. The Night Club has been decimated, and things look pretty bad - not only for the teenage vampires, but also for the city.
This was an issue of the bad guys getting their own way, and it worked really well. The use of the animals was violent and threatening, well played out with the powers of vampires.
There is some sadistic torture going on here, and the dark tones, along with some clever colouring choices, made this an excellent read.
There is a nice hope cliffhanger at the end, and I look forward to seeing how this story plays out…
